  Article Marketing and Social Bookmarking

There is little dispute among marketing experts that article marketing is a highly effective way to promote a website or business.  An article marketing plan can increase traffic, website ranking, consumer confidence and sales.

If you are undertaking a commitment to article marketing you may wish to consider also engaging in a social bookmarking campaign as well.

Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking sites including Digg and StumbleUpon are designed to help promote the most popular articles on the net.  Millions of people visit the social bookmarking sites in order to read the most popular articles and promote other articles they have found and liked.

An article appearing prominently on one or more of these social bookmarking sites can receive a lot of exposure and a ton of traffic.  This makes the article more valuable. You can expect to see an increase in traffic and sales as a result of an article doing well on a social bookmarking site.

Many article marketing experts start to build up a network of social bookmarkers.  These bookmarkers bookmark each other’s articles.  Building a network of “friends” who will help promote your article in exchange for you promoting their articles is valuable.

Get Yourself Bookmarked

The first step in getting your article bookmarked is to write a good article and distribute it online.  You typically want to focus your bookmarking efforts on your website so make sure your article is posted on your site before you start your bookmarking efforts.

The better quality your article is the better chance you have of getting people to bookmark it and increase its popularity.

A short, well written and informative or entertaining article is your best chance to get an article bookmarked by many readers.  Popular articles are bookmarked by thousands of people and then take on a life of their own.

Make sure you have your own accounts on all of the major bookmarking sites.  You can use your account to start the bookmarking process.  Some writers have multiple bookmarking accounts on each service.  IP technology however makes it difficult to try to bookmark your own article multiple times.

Bottom Line

The bottom line with social bookmarking is it is a great way to increase the popularity of your articles.  If you can get your articles to become popular on the social bookmarking sites you will see a corresponding increase in traffic and most likely sales.
